The strength of an age-old tradition and the creativity that transforms an object of common use, such as a plate, a teapot or a furnishing accessory, into an authentic design creation, is the epitome of Vicenza’s ceramics sector. The district is located primarily in the area of Bassano del Grappa and Nove and unites the winning mix of these two characteristics: its roots are buried in the 17th century, but the sector has succeeded in renewing the system over the years and in addressing classical enthusiasts and connoisseurs of modern production alike, with a diversified production. From tableware to soup bowls, vases to jewelry boxes, cachepots and fancy sweet boxes, from picture frames to decorative plates and lamps, artistic “Made in Vicenza” ceramics firms produce the entire range of products for furnishing accessories, knick-knacks and gift items. This is all done with great attention to quality, as they count on stylistic research and have become full-fledged members of the testimonials of Italian styling on foreign markets, especially in the United States, Japan and in Arabian Countries. There are some 400 firms in the Vicenza’s area operating in the artistic ceramics sector: a consistent number, made up of a system of craft enterprises united in a productive district. The overall turnover of these companies is 120 million euro, with exports, according to the latest estimates available, of 43 million euro. This is a statistic that testifies to the propensity for exportation of sector enterprises, which are small in size but competitive on international markets.
